Responsibilities

A State Director is first and foremost a skilled manager and executor, able to balance projects, priorities, and people needs in a rapidly-changing, high-urgency campaign cycle. State Directors are also digital marketing leaders, experienced in paid/growth marketing, email marketing, social, and related functional domains. SDs will ensure delivery of a portfolio of up to 20 digital campaign projects spread across a dozen or more campaigns at once. They onboard, coach, and performance-manage our volunteer project leaders and team members. They serve as a strategic advisor and partner to the campaigns & statewide caucuses that we serve. And they serve as thought leaders and insight generators, as TFC builds next-generation learning technologies.

  • Directly manage up to 20 TFC digital campaign project teams at once, supervising trained volunteer team leaders and their teams to ensure TFC delivers outstanding quality services that delight our campaigns and help them win
  • Be the ‘account manager’ for the delivery of TFC digital services to one or more strategic statewide partners, i.e. the committee and campaign leaders that sponsor our work. Ensure excellence in the delivery of our work and an outstanding customer experience
  • Build a relationship of trust, partnership, and strategic counsel with the candidates, campaign managers, and statewide caucus leaders, establishing TFC as a trusted partner, not just a services provider
  • Advise volunteer teams on strategy and execution across performance marketing, email, website, and texting projects; troubleshoot technical issues when necessary, and connect teams to the resources needed to do the work
  • Onboard & orient our skilled volunteers quickly to the TFC toolkit and delivery model, coach and manage Team Leads to crawl/walk/run quickly and effectively
  • Measure, track, and communicate essential performance metrics across all projects, linked to our strategic objectives and KPIs
  • Motivate our amazing volunteer community to give their best; recognize and celebrate their contributions; create an experience in which they’ll want to work with us again and again
  • Improve process and build capability as we go: TFC is constantly evolving our offerings and scaling our processes to maximize our impact
  • Help shape and execute digital testing and learning experiments across campaigns, generate insights that you’ll share across the TFC organization and to political stakeholders
  • Roll up your sleeves, jump in, and have fun with a community of deeply-committed and talented people from all backgrounds that are fighting for democracy and against extremism
  • Make a meaningful, measurable impact on the elections that will shape our lives and the future of our country

Qualifications

  • An experienced marketer and people manager who loves figuring out how to motivate and get the best out of a team
  • A functional expert in at least one, ideally several, of digital marketing domains: paid/growth marketing, email marketing, social media marketing
  • Highly organized and able to relentlessly prioritize; you are comfortable juggling many initiatives simultaneously and switching tasks without dropping others; you thrive under pressure
  • Intensely data-driven, particularly in execution. You measure and manage KPIs aggressively to align with TFC’s strategic objectives; you focus on the biggest drivers of value
  • A strong communicator and presenter, able to concisely and effectively give direction, thoughtfully build buy-in, and with the executive presence to represent TFC as a strategic partner to candidates and senior political leaders
  • A problem solver and team player: “Not my job” is not in your vocabulary. You are creative and collaborative in solving problems and not afraid to ask for help from your team. You take ownership of the team’s results and the challenges that may come with it
  • Low-ego - you are humble and gracious, allowing you and others to be direct and collaborative in solving problems and in sharing and receiving feedback
  • You have high standards for yourself and others and know how to ensure teams feel accountability and strive to deliver the very best
  • Approx. 10 years of work experience, including people management; additional experience welcome
  • Political experience a plus, not a must
  • You have a passion for putting your talent to work on high-impact, high-ROI projects that drive electoral outcomes and shape our daily lives
